{"id":162,"date":"2018-03-05T09:00:38","date_gmt":"2018-03-05T08:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/disa\/?p=162"},"modified":"2018-03-05T10:20:49","modified_gmt":"2018-03-05T09:20:49","slug":"phd-course-in-social-simulation-now-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/disa\/?p=162","title":{"rendered":"PhD course in Social simulation now available!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This course in Social simulation\u00a0(3 credits) are open to doctoral students connected to <a href=\"https:\/\/lnu.se\/en\/disa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Linnaeus University Centre for Data Intensive Sciences and Applications (DISA)<\/a>\u00a0or other PhD-students with similar interests.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Content<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The course introduces social simulation as a way to model interaction and understand complex system using a micro-to-macro generative perspective. It will involve a mix of methodological lectures by Linnaeus University and guest speakers, and practical activities, including the development of an agent-based model using the <a href=\"http:\/\/ccl.northwestern.edu\/netlogo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NetLogo platform<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The course is organized together with <a href=\"https:\/\/lnu.se\/en\/meet-linnaeus-university\/current\/events\/2018\/essa-summer-school-aug-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the 9th ESSA Summer School in Social Simulation<\/a>, which means that students will follow and take part in all scientific activities of the summer school (social activities are elective and should be separately paid). Please have a look at the summer school webpage for more details.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Timetable<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The course will run at Evedals v\u00e4rdshus on week 33 (August 13-17, 2018). <a href=\"https:\/\/lnu.se\/en\/meet-linnaeus-university\/current\/events\/2018\/essa-summer-school-aug-2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">You find the detailed programme here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The application needs to be submitted no later than March 31st 2018. The reply about admission should be sent out by the end of April.<\/p>\n<p>The course is free for DISA-PhD-students but in order to cover the cost of the conference facilities at the Evedals V\u00e4rdshus, the course fee is 1500 SEK per person for other students.
