ProWOOD at EurOMA 2016

June 28th, 2016 by

With three PhD students, one supervisor and our program director ProWOOD was well represented at EurOMA 2016! This conference was organized on the 17th-22nd of June in Trondheim, Norway. For us PhD students a conference like EurOMA is a great opportunity to receive feedback on our work and to meet new people.

On the first conference day Heleen kicked off with a presentation on the enablers and barriers to design-driven innovation. She presented the results gathered in an ongoing case study at a Swedish wood furniture company. Since the concept of design-driven innovation is relatively new it is always exciting to see how other people will react to it. The audience quickly understood how focusing on the purpose of products will lead to new innovative solutions.

The second conference day we had the chance to visit other presentations. There were 20 sessions going on in parallel, including sessions on innovation, operations management, production systems and sustainability. After an intense day we were rewarded with a delicious conference dinner!

To save the best for last, Roaa presented her paper on levels of automation in the Swedish wood product industry on the third conference day. She has conducted a case study in which she compared two processing lines at an interior wood product company. Reviewing all tasks in the production lines, Roaa was able to quantify the levels of automation in the system. However, she emphasizes the need to identify and highlight critical tasks to improve technical efficiency.

We’ve received enough inspiration to develop our research further. But for now…

…We wish you a great summer!
