It has been edited for clarity.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">At the beginning of a new year, it&#8217;s once again time to reflect on the project and, this time, our work in 2021. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">The database has continued to grow and develop, with a lot of data being added. The interface now features a short description of the project and the research resource which is still under construction. The input interface,\u00a0<em>Mapping Saints<\/em>, can now be viewed online, here: <\/span><a class=\"css-4rbku5 css-18t94o4 css-901oao css-16my406 r-1cvl2hr r-1loqt21 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\" role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AbXawZ9CHq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-hiw28u r-qvk6io r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\" aria-hidden=\"true\">https:\/\/<\/span>saints.dh.gu.se<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">In 2021, we focused on data input, creating places on the Finnish map, refining our database model, and implementing IIIF. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">This update thread from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MappingSaints\/status\/1388058543803322370\">April 2021<\/a> highlights that from <\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">mid-March to mid-June, Steffen Hope joined us as<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\"> a research assistant to assist with the transcription and input of those calendar fragments <\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">that have images in the <a href=\"https:\/\/sok.riksarkivet.se\/mpo\">Medieval Parchment Cover database (MPO)<\/a> at the Swedish National Archives.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"css-1dbjc4n\">\n<div id=\"id__71h1pbxw8st\" class=\"css-901oao r-18jsvk2 r-37j5jr r-a023e6 r-16dba41 r-rjixqe r-bcqeeo r-bnwqim r-qvutc0\" dir=\"auto\" lang=\"en\">\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">Our collaborative partner, the <a href=\"https:\/\/dh.gu.se\/\">Center for Digital Humanities<\/a>, University of Gothenburg, where our research engineer, Johan \u00c5hlfeldt, is based, has been working hard to implement a IIIF-server so we can utilize this to retrieve and view images directly in our research resource, including letters in the <a href=\"https:\/\/sok.riksarkivet.se\/sdhk\">SDHK<\/a> (Medieval charters\/Svenskt diplomatarium) database and fragments in <a href=\"https:\/\/sok.riksarkivet.se\/mpo\">MPO<\/a>. Johan has also worked with testing the possible implementation of an xml-editor.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">While a lot of new material is continuously being input into the database, modelling discussions and implementations are also ongoing. For instance, Terese Zachrisson and Anders Fr\u00f6jmark have been focusing their efforts on indulgence letters and miracle stories, respectively. Lena Liepe has been matching the digitized <em>Iconographical Index<\/em> cards to the correct <em>Cult Manifestations<\/em>\u00a0in the database.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">Throughout 2021, we were also active in presenting the project at conferences, such as at the (online) <a href=\"https:\/\/icms.confex.com\/icms\/2021am\/meetingapp.cgi\/Home\/0\">International Congress on Medieval Studies<\/a> in May, <\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">in a session entitled &#8216;Saints Online&#8217; together with other exciting mapping saints projects. In addition to co-writing an article about the spatial research data infrastructure of the project (forthcoming in 2022), we published an article in 2021 focusing on the project&#8217;s art historical aspects and the digitization work done in collaboration with our partners the Swedish National Heritage Board and the Swedish National Historical Museums. Our student research-assistant, Andreas Blixt, continued his work by inputting church bell and runic inscriptions, the latter including linking to relevant posts in the new database, &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/app.raa.se\/open\/runor\/search\">Runor<\/a>&#8216;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">Over the course of the autumn, we focused on questions of how we model time in the database, resulting in the implementation of a &#8220;function time-period&#8221; for our <em>Cult Manifestations<\/em> &#8211; enabling visualizations in both time and space. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">From 2021-2023, our Wallenberg postdoc Sofia Lahti will be working with the <a href=\"https:\/\/maw.wallenberg.org\/en\/study-spread-cults-saints-finland\">Finnish art historical material<\/a>. Speaking of Finland, starting in the spring 2022, we are also looking forward to finally beginning the delayed collaboration with our &#8220;sister&#8221; project, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tuni.fi\/en\/research\/lived-religion-medieval-finland\"><em>Lived Religion in Medieval Finland<\/em><\/a>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">In addition to our Finnish collaborations and continued data input, our main goal in 2022 is to develop our future user interface.
