Vi har omfattande professionsutbildningar (sjuksk\u00f6terskor, l\u00e4rare, socionomer, ingenj\u00f6rer) men ocks\u00e5 stort utbud av frist\u00e5ende kurs som \u00f6ppnar f\u00f6r livsl\u00e5ngt l\u00e4rande.<\/p>\n<p>V\u00e5rt f\u00f6rsta m\u00e5l \u00e4r att ge studenter hos oss brantast m\u00f6jliga l\u00e4rkurva \u00ad\u2013 och vi lyckas r\u00e4tt bra med detta till gagn f\u00f6r b\u00e5de individ och samh\u00e4lle! Vi har s\u00e4rskilda styrkor inom gr\u00f6n och bl\u00e5 h\u00e5llbarhet \u2013 skog och hav, nya material och digitalisering, men ocks\u00e5 inom utbildning i en f\u00f6r\u00e4nderlig v\u00e4rld \u2013 och dessv\u00e4rre s\u00e5 aktuellt idag \u2013 hur man m\u00f6ter utmaningar f\u00f6r demokratin.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Vi forts\u00e4tter att orientera oss i den samtida stora v\u00e4rlden p\u00e5 olika s\u00e4tt.<\/p>\n<p>Vi har signerat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.magna-charta.org\">Magna Charta Universitatum<\/a>\u00a0som samlar l\u00e4ros\u00e4ten globalt till f\u00f6rsvar b\u00e5de f\u00f6r akademisk frihet och ansvaret att bruka resultaten f\u00f6r att bidra till en h\u00e5llbar v\u00e4rld och deltar i arbete med <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iau-aiu.net\">UNESCO\/IAU<\/a>\u00a0och <a href=\"https:\/\/eua.eu\">EUA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I <a href=\"https:\/\/sfdora.org\">Declaration Of Research Assessment<\/a>\u00a0lovar vi att ta forskningens resultat och betydelse p\u00e5 allvar och inte enbart lita p\u00e5 bibliometriska uppgifter. Vi bygger en \u00d6ppen vetenskap som ger b\u00e4sta tillg\u00e5ng till kunskap \u00e5t alla.<\/p>\n<p>Nytt f\u00f6r \u00e5ret \u00e4r att vi ing\u00e5r i samarbete med <a href=\"https:\/\/larosatensyd.se\">L\u00e4ros\u00e4ten Syd<\/a>\u00a0och\u00a0g\u00e5r in p\u00e5 andra \u00e5ret i uppbyggnaden av ett europeiskt universitet inom ramarna f\u00f6r <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euniwell.eu\">EUniWell<\/a>\u00a0tillsammans med K\u00f6ln, Leiden, Nantes, Birmingham, Florens, Semmelweis i Budapest och precis utvidgat med Murcia i Spanien.<\/p>\n<p>Men.<\/p>\n<p>Kriget i Ukraina \u2013 eller kanske snarare Kriget i Europa \u2013 fyller nyhetsfl\u00f6det och snart v\u00e5r vardag. Hur och varf\u00f6r kan man d\u00e5 fira akademisk h\u00f6gtid? Kan eller b\u00f6r man k\u00e4nna gl\u00e4dje under s\u00e5dana omst\u00e4ndigheter? \u00c4ven jag har brottats med den fr\u00e5gan. Mitt svar har tre delar:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Vi \u00e4r alla, som i min h\u00e4lsning, b\u00e5de Medm\u00e4nniskor, medborgare, medarbetare. I v\u00e5ra liv h\u00e4nger detta ihop \u2013 men det betyder inta att vi agerar p\u00e5 samma s\u00e4tt i de olika rollerna, utan vi har olika plikter, arbetss\u00e4tt och m\u00f6jligheter.<\/li>\n<li>Akademins \u00e4r att forts\u00e4tta att vara en plats f\u00f6r kunskapsbaserat framtidshopp \u2013 det \u00e4r viktigare \u00e4n n\u00e5gonsin att synligg\u00f6ra och hylla b\u00e5de de principerna och uppr\u00e4tth\u00e5lla praktikerna.<\/li>\n<li>F\u00f6r att g\u00f6ra detta beh\u00f6vs ocks\u00e5 v\u00e5ra tydliga och h\u00f6gtidliga ceremonier och fester som tydligg\u00f6r upplysningens ideal, hyllar de som gjort s\u00e4rskilda insatser och ger kraft och lust att forts\u00e4tt arbetet.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Som rektor \u00e4r det min uppgift att forts\u00e4tta leda en kunskapsbildning som p\u00e5 b\u00e4sta s\u00e4tt kan bist\u00e5 i de utmaningar som nu f\u00e5tt kriget i Ukraina adderat till en l\u00e5ng lista av sv\u00e5ra problem.<\/p>\n<p>Utmaningarna kan verka \u00f6verm\u00e4ktiga.<\/p>\n<p>L\u00e5ter man dem bli det s\u00e5 har de destruktiva krafterna vunnit, hoppet l\u00e4mnar oss och f\u00f6rtvivlan \u00e4r en farlig ledstj\u00e4rna.<\/p>\n<p>F\u00f6rm\u00e5gan till samarbete \u00e4r m\u00e4nsklighetens fr\u00e4msta egenskap f\u00f6r framg\u00e5ng. Det g\u00e4ller p\u00e5 alla niv\u00e5er fr\u00e5n den privata sf\u00e4ren \u00f6ver arbetsplatsen, nationen till global samverkan. N\u00e4r den \u00e4r kunskapsbaserad f\u00e5r den full kraft.<\/p>\n<p>Kraft kan vara f\u00f6r\u00f6dande eller befriande.<\/p>\n<p>F\u00f6r\u00f6dande i en oansvarig exploatering av natur och m\u00e4nniskor eller med vilja till v\u00e5ldsam mobilisering till krig, men oftare genom of\u00f6rutsedda konsekvenser, som i bruket av fossilbr\u00e4nslen \u00f6ver l\u00e5ng tid \u2013 utan ond vilja men med f\u00f6r\u00f6dande konsekvenser delvis p\u00e5 grund av bristande kunskaper.<\/p>\n<p>Men samarbetet har potential att vara befriande och nyskapande: dramatiskt som i de globala samarbetena f\u00f6r att ta fram vaccin eller mer l\u00e5ngsiktigt verkande institutioner som s\u00e4krar m\u00e4nskliga r\u00e4ttigheter.<\/p>\n<p>Det sista exemplet pekar p\u00e5 att kunskap \u00e4r ett n\u00f6dv\u00e4ndigt men inte tillr\u00e4ckligt villkor f\u00f6r en god framtid.<\/p>\n<p>F\u00f6rm\u00e5gan att g\u00f6ra kloka val, handla omd\u00f6mesgillt i komplexa fr\u00e5gor kr\u00e4ver ocks\u00e5 insikter i etik och f\u00f6rm\u00e5gan att tillsammans oms\u00e4tta dessa efter situation och l\u00e4ge.<\/p>\n<p>Vi s\u00f6ker i v\u00e5r tid ofta tr\u00f6st i de vetenskapliga och tekniska framstegen, men jag vill sl\u00e5 ett slag f\u00f6r traditionens giltighet och v\u00e4rde. Den v\u00e5ldsamma tekniska utvecklingen lurar oss ibland att tro att v\u00e4rlden och m\u00e4nniskan i allt st\u00e5r inf\u00f6r en ny situation. Det \u00e4r d\u00e5 givande att \u00e5terv\u00e4nda till det moderna t\u00e4nkandets f\u00f6rsta giganter.<\/p>\n<p>Att kunna g\u00f6ra detta \u00e4r en f\u00f6rm\u00e5n tillg\u00e4nglig f\u00f6r oss, samtidigt en p\u00e5minnelse om den kanske mest betydelsefulla uppfinningen i v\u00e4rldshistorien: skriftspr\u00e5ket.<\/p>\n<p>Jag har under pandemin sj\u00e4lv haft gl\u00e4dje av en amat\u00f6rm\u00e4ssig \u00e5terkomst till grundtexter av Platon och Aristoteles efter ungdoms\u00e5rens inledande filosofistudier. Det som sl\u00e5r an mest \u00e4r hur l\u00e5ngt de redan kommit i begreppsbildning och resonemang om\u00a0hur staten b\u00f6r styras, ungdomen fostras och vad som b\u00f6r r\u00e4knas som gott handlande.<\/p>\n<p>Hur likartade de dilemman \u00e4r som filosoferna d\u00e5 f\u00f6rs\u00f6ker reda i. Att de \u00e4r slitstarka betyder inte n\u00f6dv\u00e4ndigtvis p\u00e5 brist p\u00e5 framsteg, men definitivt att vi inte har l\u00e4mnat fr\u00e5gorna bakom oss vilket m\u00e4nskligheten i h\u00f6gmod ibland trott.<\/p>\n<p>Platon noterar i Staten f\u00f6ljande kring tr\u00e4ning och l\u00e4rande:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201dkroppsliga anstr\u00e4ngningar kunna tv\u00e5ngsvis p\u00e5l\u00e4ggas en m\u00e4nniska, utan att de g\u00f6ra hennes kropp s\u00e4mre, men ingen kunskap, som p\u00e5tvingas en m\u00e4nniska, blir varaktig\u2026. Du f\u00e5r s\u00e5ledes ej, min b\u00e4ste v\u00e4n, med v\u00e5ld leda barnen in p\u00e5 vetandets v\u00e4gar, utan g\u00f6ra det liksom p\u00e5 lek. D\u00e4rigenom blir du ock b\u00e4ttre i st\u00e5nd att se, vad var och en av naturen g\u00e5r f\u00f6r.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Aristoteles v\u00e4gledning f\u00f6r det r\u00e4tta handlandet framh\u00e5ller f\u00f6rm\u00e5gan att v\u00e4ga vad som \u00e4r r\u00e4tt att g\u00f6ra givet situationen, omd\u00f6met, som viktigare \u00e4n den stela regelstyrningen. Men \u00e4ven han l\u00e4gger utg\u00e5ngspunkten i str\u00e4van efter <strong>Eudaimonia<\/strong>, lycka, str\u00e4van efter ett h\u00e5llbart tillst\u00e5nd av v\u00e4lg\u00e5ng eller v\u00e4lbefinnande, och noterar hur avg\u00f6rande f\u00f6rm\u00e5gan till v\u00e4nskap och tillit \u00e4r f\u00f6r det goda livet.<\/p>\n<p>L\u00e5ngt fr\u00e5n kriget kan man tycka \u2013 men s\u00e5 var det inte f\u00f6r klassiska tidens greker som fortsatte sitt inflytelserika t\u00e4nkande om h\u00e5llbart m\u00e4nnisko- och samh\u00e4llsblivande mitt i en mycket krigisk och formativ tid och lade grunden f\u00f6r akademins etos.<\/p>\n<p>Detta kulturarv b\u00e4r vi vidare, aktualiserar och f\u00f6rnyar!<\/p>\n<p>\u00c5ter till d\u00e4r vi st\u00e5r nu!<\/p>\n<p>Idag h\u00f6gtidligh\u00e5ller vi framf\u00f6r allt de individer som tagit ett avg\u00f6rande steg: 31 forskarstuderande promoveras till doktorer. 26 akademiska l\u00e4rare installeras till professorer, f\u00f6rtj\u00e4nta stipendiater, prismottagare och hedersdoktor.<\/p>\n<p>Detta \u00e4r m\u00f6jligt tack vare och gagnar alla studenter medarbetare och det omgivande samh\u00e4lle som idag samlas f\u00f6r att hylla akademin som kraft f\u00f6r ett allsidigt m\u00e4nniskoblivande och ett h\u00e5llbart samh\u00e4llsbygge.<\/p>\n<p>Nu samlas vi till Akademisk h\u00f6gtid f\u00f6r att hylla alla som gjort insatser i detta arbete!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>Ceremony speech by vice-chancellor Peter Aronsson at Linnaeus University\u2019s Academic Ceremony on Friday 25 March 2022<\/h1>\n<p><strong>Honourable fellow human beings, citizens, colleagues and friends of academia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This somewhat unusual welcome greeting is called for due to the dramatic situation with an ongoing war in our part of the world and the need to show both commitment and adaptation while remaining steady in our roles with a long-term view also in this new crisis situation \u2013 and, once again, gather for our Academic Ceremony!<\/p>\n<p>Linnaeus University\u2019s vision is to truly set knowledge in motion for a sustainable societal development.<\/p>\n<p>Linnaeus University musters up all its competence to meet the societal challenges. We offer extensive professional education and training (nurses, teachers, social workers, engineers) but also a broad selection of single-subject courses, which opens up for lifelong learning.<\/p>\n<p>Our first goal is to give our students the steepest possible learning curve \u2013 and we are succeeding quite well with this, to the benefit of both individuals and society! We have special strengths within green and blue sustainability \u2013 forest and sea, new materials and digitalisation, but also within education in a changing world and \u2013 which unfortunately is very topical today \u2013 how to meet the challenges facing democracy.<\/p>\n<p>We continue to orient ourselves on the contemporary world stage in a number of ways.<\/p>\n<p>We have signed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.magna-charta.org\">Magna Charta Universitatum<\/a>\u00a0which brings together higher education institutions globally in defense of both academic freedom and the responsibility to utilise the results to contribute to a sustainable world. We also collaborate with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iau-aiu.net\">UNESCO\/IAU<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/eua.eu\">EUA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/sfdora.org\">Declaration of Research Assessment<\/a>\u00a0we pledge to take research results and the significance of research seriously and not only trust bibliometric data. We build Open Science that will offer the best access to knowledge for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>New for this year is that we have entered a collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/larosatensyd.se\/en\/\">L\u00e4ros\u00e4ten Syd<\/a>. We also enter the second year of taking part in the build-up of a European university within the framework of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euniwell.eu\">EUniWell<\/a>\u00a0together with Cologne, Leiden, Nantes, Birmingham, Florence, Semmelweis in Budapest, and, the latest member, Murcia in Spain.<\/p>\n<p>However.<\/p>\n<p>The war in Ukraine \u2013 or perhaps rather the war in Europe \u2013 fills our newsfeed and soon our everyday lives. How and why can we then celebrate our Academic Ceremony? Can or should one feel joy under such circumstances? Also I have wrestled with this question. My answer contains three different parts:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>All of us, as I said in my welcome greeting, are fellow human beings, citizens and colleagues. In our lives, these roles are linked together \u2013 but it does not mean that we act the same way in the three different roles, instead we have different duties, ways of working, and possibilities.<\/li>\n<li>The role of academia is to continue to be a place for knowledge-based hope for the future \u2013 it is more important than ever to both celebrate these principles and to maintain the practices.<\/li>\n<li>In order to do this, we also need our distinct and grand ceremonies and celebrations that exemplify the ideals of enlightenment, celebrate those who have made special contributions, and provide strength and joy to continue our work.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>As vice-chancellor, it is my task to continue to lead a knowledge creation that in the best way possible can contribute in meeting the long list of challenges to which the war in Ukraine has now been added.<\/p>\n<p>The challenges may seem insurmountable.<\/p>\n<p>If we allow them to be, then the destructive forces have won, hope leaves us and despair is a dangerous guiding star. The ability to collaborate is the foremost characteristic behind human success. This applies at all levels, from the private sphere and the workplace to national and global collaboration. When this collaboration is knowledge-based it gains full strength.<\/p>\n<p>Strength can either be devastating or liberating.<\/p>\n<p>Devastating in the form of irresponsible exploitation of nature and people or the will for violent war mobilization, but more often through unpredicted consequences, like the use of fossil fuels over a long period of time \u2013 without evil intent, but with devastating consequences partly due to lack of knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>However, collaboration also has the potential to be liberating and innovative: dramatically, like in the global collaborations to develop vaccines or the more long-term work at organisations that work to protect human rights.<\/p>\n<p>The last example points out that knowledge is a necessary but not sufficient prerequisite for a good future.<\/p>\n<p>The ability to make wise choices and act based on sound judgement in complex issues also requires ethical insights as well as the ability to put this into practice together, based on the situation.<\/p>\n<p>In our time, we often seek comfort in the scientific and technological advances, but I would like to stand up for the validity and value of tradition. Sometimes, the incredibly rapid technological development fools us to believe that the world and the human race is facing a completely new situation. At such times, it can be good to return to the first giants of modern thinking.<\/p>\n<p>Being able to do this, is a benefit that we enjoy, but also a reminder of perhaps the most important invention in the history of humankind: the written language.<\/p>\n<p>During the pandemic, I have found joy in returning to an amateur reading of texts by Plato and Aristotle after my initial philosophy studies as a young man. What strikes me the most is how far they had come in their concept creation and reasoning on how the state should be governed, youth be fostered and what are considered good actions.<\/p>\n<p>How similar the dilemmas that philosophers tried to solve at that time were. The fact that they linger does not necessarily mean that there has been a lack of progress, but definitely that we have not left these questions behind us, which humanity, in pride, sometimes have thought.<\/p>\n<p>In <em>Republic<\/em>, Plato notes the following concerning exercise and learning:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cbodily efforts could be forced on a human being, without making her body worse, but no knowledge, that has been forced on a human being, will last\u2026Thus, you must not, my dear friend, use violence to lead children into the paths of knowledge, but instead do it as if at play. In this way, you will also become more capable to see, what each and everyone by nature is capable of\u201d.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Aristotle\u2019s guidance concerning correct actions stresses the ability to weigh what is correct based on the situation and your judgement as more important than the rigid governing by rules. However, also he uses as his point of departure the strive for <strong>Eudaimonia<\/strong>, happiness, the strive for a sustainable condition of prosperity or wellbeing, and notes how decisive the ability for friendship and trust are for the good life.<\/p>\n<p>Far from the war, one may think \u2013 but this was not the case for the Classical Greeks who continued their influential thinking on sustainable human and societal becoming in the midst of a very war-filled and formative era and established the basis for the ethos of academia.<\/p>\n<p>We carry this cultural heritage with us today, actualise it and renew it!<\/p>\n<p>Back to where we are right now!<\/p>\n<p>Today, above all, we celebrate the individuals who have taken a decisive step: 31 doctoral students are conferred their doctoral titles. 26 academic teachers are installed as professors, well-deserving scholarship holders, recipients of awards and honorary doctors.<\/p>\n<p>This is possible thanks to, and benefits, all students, members of staff, and the surrounding community who have gathered here today to celebrate academia as a force for an overall human becoming and a sustainable societal construction.<\/p>\n<p>We have now gathered for our Academic Ceremony, to celebrate everyone who has contributed in this work!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00c4rade medm\u00e4nniskor, medborgare, medarbetare och v\u00e4nner till akademin.\u00a0 Denna lite irregulj\u00e4ra v\u00e4lkomsth\u00e4lsning \u00e4r p\u00e5kallad av den dramatiska situationen med krig i v\u00e5rt n\u00e4romr\u00e5de och behovet av att upptr\u00e4da b\u00e5de engagerat och anpassat men rolls\u00e4kert och l\u00e5ngsiktigt ocks\u00e5 i denna nya krissituation \u2013 och samtidigt samlas igen till Akademisk h\u00f6gtid!
