D\u00e4r st\u00e4ller designstudenterna fr\u00e5n Linn\u00e9universitetet ut den utan tvekan mest utmanande montern bland alla. I en vit och blodf\u00e4rgad monter st\u00e4ller man fr\u00e5gor om hur f\u00f6rtr\u00e4ngningen av kvinnors menstruation p\u00e5verkar anv\u00e4ndning av rum och m\u00f6blering. Utmaningen stimulerar diskussion och nyt\u00e4nkande \u2013 som ett nyt\u00e4nkande universitet ska g\u00f6ra.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Arbete med utbildning &#8211; gemensamma n\u00e4mnaren f\u00f6r alla p\u00e5 ett universitet<\/h3>\n<p>34 000 studenter s\u00f6ker sig till oss, l\u00e4rarna planerar undervisning, arbetsmarknaden v\u00e4ntar p\u00e5 nya kunskaper. Fler studerar p\u00e5 n\u00e5got av v\u00e5ra 140 program eller 2500 frist\u00e5ende kurser.<br \/>\nKurser och program f\u00f6rnyas och vi fyller platserna. N\u00e5gra har l\u00e5nga k\u00f6er av reserver och andra som samh\u00e4llet efterfr\u00e5gar har inte tillr\u00e4ckligt med beh\u00f6riga studenter. Allt fler l\u00e4ser kurser med digitalt st\u00f6d som till\u00e5ter n\u00e4rvaro b\u00e5de p\u00e5 campus och p\u00e5 distans, vilket g\u00f6r att du kan fylla p\u00e5 kompetens i olika stadier i livet. Vi ska fylla de kompetensluckor som finns p\u00e5 existerande arbetsplatser. \u00c4nnu viktigare \u00e4r att se runt h\u00f6rnet och skapa kompetenser f\u00f6r sm\u00e5 och stora uppgifter som \u00e4nnu \u00e5terst\u00e5r att l\u00f6sa. Nyligen startade\u00a0vi till exempel flervetenskapliga masterprogram i e-H\u00e4lsa, program f\u00f6r integrations och m\u00e5ngfaldsstudier och en MOOC om den popul\u00e4ra fantasylitteraturen.<\/p>\n<h3>St\u00e4ndiga f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar och f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttringar<\/h3>\n<p>Under 2018 \u00e4r det dags att b\u00f6rja ta ett mer samlat grepp s\u00e5 att vi vet att vi anv\u00e4nder v\u00e5ra resurser p\u00e5 b\u00e4sta s\u00e4tt, att vi drar nytta av den egna och det omgivande samh\u00e4llets kompetenser. Har vi det utbud i de former som studenterna efterfr\u00e5gar, samh\u00e4llsutmaningarna pockar p\u00e5, v\u00e5r forskning underst\u00f6der, samh\u00e4llet och arbetsmarknaden beh\u00f6ver? Jag vill att alla k\u00e4nner sig v\u00e4lkomna att bidra i arbetet med att svara p\u00e5 dessa fr\u00e5gor och f\u00f6resl\u00e5 f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar.<br \/>\nDetta \u00e4r en f\u00f6rberedelse f\u00f6r att kunna g\u00e5 in i ett nytt styrnings- och resurstilldelningssystem som utreds just nu. Vi f\u00e5r d\u00e5 inga uppdelade prislappar f\u00f6r olika utbildningar och inget anslag uppdelat mellan forskning och utbildning. D\u00e5 m\u00e5ste vi b\u00e4ttre kunna argumentera f\u00f6r vilka utbildningar som ska ges och hur forskningen ser till att den h\u00e5ller b\u00e4sta kvalitet.<\/p>\n<h4>N\u00e5gra av de utmaningar vi arbetar med:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Hur kopplar vi omr\u00e5den med stark forskning n\u00e4rmare till omr\u00e5den med stort tryck p\u00e5 studieplatserna?<\/li>\n<li>Hur kan vi ge h\u00f6gre utbyte i l\u00e4rande utan att \u00f6ka arbetsbelastningen p\u00e5 l\u00e4rarna?<\/li>\n<li>Hur nyttjar vi resurser utanf\u00f6r universitetet f\u00f6r att \u00f6ka kvaliteten och relevansen i utbildningarna?<\/li>\n<li>Hur tar vi b\u00e4ttre emot nya svenskar och de fr\u00e5n studieovana milj\u00f6er?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Tillsammans skapar vi f\u00f6ruts\u00e4ttningar f\u00f6r bra utbildning<\/h3>\n<p>Staten ger oss grundanslaget och d\u00e4r finns behov av h\u00f6jda anslag till utbildning men \u00e4ven f\u00f6r forskning d\u00e4r vi utan goda sk\u00e4l har ett mycket svagare utg\u00e5ngsl\u00e4ge \u00e4n de \u00e4ldre universiteten.<br \/>\nArbetsgivare m\u00e5ste bist\u00e5 med sin kunskap, praktikplatser, efterfr\u00e5gan och karri\u00e4rv\u00e4gar som uppskattar h\u00f6g kompetens. N\u00e4r antalet platser med statlig finansiering inte \u00f6kar beh\u00f6ver vi prioritera f\u00f6r att kunna f\u00f6rnya, men kan ocks\u00e5 skapa skr\u00e4ddarsydda uppdragsutbildningar f\u00f6r heta branscher d\u00e4r man betalar f\u00f6r v\u00e4lintegrerad kompetensh\u00f6jning. Vi skapar fler strategiska avtal f\u00f6r att arbeta tillsammans med kommuner, regioner och f\u00f6retag. \u00c4ven h\u00e4r beh\u00f6vs allas id\u00e9er och att vi frig\u00f6r utrymme f\u00f6r att kunna utarbeta framtidens utbildningar.<\/p>\n<p><em>Peter Aronsson, rektor<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Challenging educations can contribute to solving societal challenges<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Today I visited the furniture fair in Stockholm, where our design students present, without a doubt, the most challenging exhibition stand of all. In a white and blood-red stand, questions are raised about how the suppression of women\u2019s menstruation affects the use of room and furnishing. The challenge stimulates discussion and creativity \u2013 exactly what a curious university is meant to do.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Work with education \u2013 the common denominator for everyone at a university<\/h3>\n<p>34,000 students come to us to study. Our lecturers plan their teaching and the labour market waits eagerly for new skills and knowledge. More students study on one of our 140 degree programmes or 2,500 single-subject courses. Courses and programmes are renewed and we fill the places. For some, there are long waiting lists while others in demand in society do not have enough qualified applicants. More and more students take courses through digital support so that they can study both on campus and at a distance, which makes it possible to add competence at different stages in life. We should contribute to filling the knowledge gap that can be found at existing work places. What is even more important is to look to the future to build the competence needed for small and big tasks that still remain to be solved. For instance, we recently launched multidisciplinary programmes within eHealth, integration and diversity studies, and a MOOC about the popular fantasy literature.<\/p>\n<h3>Constant changes and improvements<\/h3>\n<p>During 2018 it is time to take a more comprehensive approach to make sure that we use our resources in the best possible way, that we make the most our own and the surrounding society\u2019s resources. Do we offer the courses and programmes requested by the students? Do we offer them in the right form? Do we offer the courses and programmes that societal challenges require, that our research supports, that society and the labour market are in need of? I want everyone to feel welcome to contribute in the work to answer these questions and put forward proposals for changes.<\/p>\n<p>This is preparatory work in order for us to be able to initiate a new steering and resource allocation system that is being investigated at the moment. This way, we will no longer get different price tags for different programmes and our grant will not be divided into research and education. However, this requires that we become better at presenting arguments for what programmes should be offered and how our research contributes to making sure that these programmes are of the highest quality.<\/p>\n<h4>Some of the challenges we are working with:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>How do we establish stronger links between fields with strong research and fields with a large number of applicants per place?<\/li>\n<li>How can we generate an increased exchange in learning without adding to our teachers\u2019 workload?<\/li>\n<li>How do we make use of our resources externally to improve the quality and relevance of our courses and programmes?<\/li>\n<li>How do we better welcome immigrants and newly-arrived people and people who are not used to studying?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Together we create the conditions for good education<\/h3>\n<p>The government allocates our basic grant and there is a need to raise this grant for education, but also for research where we, without good reason, have a much weaker starting point than the older universities.<\/p>\n<p>Employers must contribute with knowledge, internship positions, demand and career paths that appreciate high competence. When the number of state-funded study places is not increasing we must prioritise renewal, but also create tailor-made contract educations for advancing lines of trade that are willing to pay for well-integrated skills development. We are establishing more strategic agreements to collaborate with municipalities, regions and companies.
