{"id":3661,"date":"2024-09-19T20:38:07","date_gmt":"2024-09-19T19:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/?p=3661"},"modified":"2024-09-19T20:38:08","modified_gmt":"2024-09-19T19:38:08","slug":"why-cultural-futures-make-us-hopeful","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/?p=3661","title":{"rendered":"Why Cultural Futures Make Us Hopeful"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I chaired and presented in a session entitled &#8220;Why Cultural Futures Make us Hopeful&#8221; at the <a href=\"https:\/\/soif.org.uk\/building-hopeful-futures-festival\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Building Hopeful Futures Festival<\/a>, a virtual side-event in the run-up to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/summit-of-the-future\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UN Summit of the Future<\/a> in New York (19 September 2024). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was joined by the global artist Kai Altmann (<a href=\"https:\/\/xle.life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">XLE.LIFE<\/a>) and the heritage professional Alison Heritage (ICCROM, Rome, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iccrom.org\/publication\/anticipating-futures-heritage\">Heritage Foresight initiative<\/a>). We discussed why a global Pact for the Future should take culture seriously, what we can learn from transcultural futurisms, and how cultural heritage can be a tool for future-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my presentation, I argued that building better futures for human beings benefits from acknowledging the importance of culture for being human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I gave three reasons why culture is so important in relation to future-making: it helps us (1) thinking across generations, (2) understanding how people are making sense of the world which informs how they act, and (3) asking in what future we all want to live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I chaired and presented in a session entitled &#8220;Why Cultural Futures Make us Hopeful&#8221; at the Building Hopeful Futures Festival, a virtual side-event in the run-up to the UN Summit of the Future in New York (19 September 2024).
