{"id":4159,"date":"2025-10-03T22:35:30","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T21:35:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/?p=4159"},"modified":"2025-10-08T22:37:48","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T21:37:48","slug":"cultural-heritage-and-sustainable-tourism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/?p=4159","title":{"rendered":"Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Tourism"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Today, we started a joint project with the University&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/lnu.se\/mot-linneuniversitetet\/kunskapsmiljoer\/hallbar-turism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Knowledge Environment for Sustainable Tourism (KEST)<\/a> with<em> A Round Table on Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Tourism<\/em> (led by my colleague Marianna Strzelecka). <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/209\/files\/sites\/209\/2025\/10\/20251003_130056-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4182\" style=\"width:522px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/209\/files\/sites\/209\/2025\/10\/20251003_130056-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/209\/files\/sites\/209\/2025\/10\/20251003_130056-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/209\/files\/sites\/209\/2025\/10\/20251003_130056-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/209\/files\/sites\/209\/2025\/10\/20251003_130056-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/209\/files\/sites\/209\/2025\/10\/20251003_130056-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Some 20 participants from many regional organisations (M\u00f6rbyl\u00e5nga kommun, Region Kalmar l\u00e4n, Destination Kalmar, L\u00e4nsstyrelsen Kalmar l\u00e4n, Kalmar l\u00e4ns museum, \u00d6lands museum, \u00d6lands turistbyr\u00e5, Karlskrona kommun och Linn\u00e9universitetet) discussed challenges under three headings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. <strong>Co-creating the Southern \u00d6land landscape<\/strong>: How farmers, local communities, tourism actors, and other stakeholders can collaborate to sustain and benefit from the World Heritage landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. <strong>Mobilities to and within \u00d6land<\/strong>: Exploring sustainable transportation options for visitors, residents, and goods while respecting the island\u2019s unique cultural and natural values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. <strong>Managing local natural resources under pressure<\/strong>: Addressing challenges such as water availability and climate change impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was also one cross-cutting theme: <strong>Agricultural landscapes as pathways to peace and dialogue<\/strong>. How the Southern \u00d6land heritage landscape can foster understanding, cooperation, and peaceful relations through shared stewardship of land and traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project will continue this autumn with student fieldwork and a joint futures workshop at the end.
