{"id":4694,"date":"2026-05-30T20:16:39","date_gmt":"2026-05-30T19:16:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/?p=4694"},"modified":"2026-06-01T08:27:25","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T07:27:25","slug":"climate-heritage-and-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/?p=4694","title":{"rendered":"Climate, Heritage, and Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Around 20 specialists in cultural heritage and climate change from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France, the UK, and the US attended the workshop on &#8220;Climate, Heritage, and Policy: Dialogues in Learning&#8221;, organised by Marcy Rockman at Linnaeus University on campus Kalmar (27-30 May 2026). The workshop was supported by a grant from the Swedish Research Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop related directly to heritage futures, i.e. the role of cultural heritage in managing the relations between present and future societies. What I have been taking away includes thoughts about the following issues (others will have taken away different thoughts):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>how are we to discuss climate change in relation to cultural heritage that is deeply problematic?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>what happens when we recognise that knowledge about climate change is based on social truths?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how are we to draw on the potential of cultural heritage to make climate change deeply personal?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>are there better terms than the homogenising notion of &#8220;community&#8221; for describing the humans affected by climate change?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>is unlearning possibly more important than learning?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how can we best harness the power of engaging with collaborators as human beings rather than as experts?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>is climate change necessarily a threat or can it also be considered as an opportunity?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>who do we want to be and how do we want to live, now and in the future?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/209\/files\/sites\/209\/2026\/05\/20260529_153714-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4698\" style=\"width:669px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/209\/files\/sites\/209\/2026\/05\/20260529_153714-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/209\/files\/sites\/209\/2026\/05\/20260529_153714-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/209\/files\/sites\/209\/2026\/05\/20260529_153714-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/209\/files\/sites\/209\/2026\/05\/20260529_153714-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blogg.lnu.se\/unesco\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/209\/files\/sites\/209\/2026\/05\/20260529_153714-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Among the ways of working were group work, artistic expression, and fieldwork in Kalmar, involving all the senses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The creativity and playfulness in methods amounted to what participant called &#8220;epistemic disobedience&#8221;.
