Sarah May is thinking about heritage and its long relationship with volcanoes. Do common notions of risk force us to be ‘waiting for the big one‘ when it comes to the future or are there other ways of thinking change?

Anders Högberg and Cornelius Holtorf presented on “Nuclear Waste as Cultural Heritage” and chaired two roundtables at the Nuclear Culture Roundtable on Memory and Future, held on 4 May 2018 at Malmo Konstmuseum, Malmö, Sweden. Even Sarah May participated actively as a rapporteur.

The Roundtable on Memory and Future was hosted by Malmo Konstmuseum in partnership with Linnaeus University and chaired by Curator Ele Carpenter. More information about the exhibition Perpetual Uncertainty – art and radioactivity which provided the context of this event can be found here.

Every year on 18 April, ICOMOS celebrates the International Day for Monuments and Sites. The 2018 theme is ”Heritage for Generations”. But Sarah May and I are asking: how does the cultural heritage sector know which monuments and sites we preserve will benefit our grandchildren and which could harm them? Can loss of heritage provide benefits too?

CH presents a public lecture on “Vad gör jag som UNESCO professor?” for students on Linnaeus University’s Campus Kalmar (28 Feb 18)

CH lectures on “Heritage Futures and the Future of Heritage in Europe” as the second in a series of lectures organized by the Flemish support center for cultural heritage FARO and the Flemish heritage network Herita under the theme of TEIM: Thank Europe it’s Monday and linked to the 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage. Palace on the Meir, Antwerp, Belgium (5 March 2018).

2018 is the European Year of Cultural Heritage. This “unprecedented year of events and celebrations” was put under the motto “Our Heritage: Where The Past Meets The Future”. But the heritage sector is rather badly prepared for the future and its challenges. Read more here...
